The Sussex and Area Seniors’ Centre was started by a group of like-minded  seniors in 2006 with a vision and desire to create a place for seniors to gather.  A place where seniors in the Greater Sussex Area could get companionship (avoiding isolation), education, fun, exercise and an all round healthy lifestyle.   A  place where Seniors could share with other Seniors, their fields of expertise and knowledge, to help make Seniors’ lives the best it should be.

The Town of Sussex was extremely supportive and signed a three-year management agreement with the Sussex and Area Seniors' Centre Inc. at a Council meeting on November 12th, 2006.  The Board met over the next five months and agreed by majority decisions to a Mission Statement, Constitution, Policy and Procedures, By-Laws and became Incorporated.

During our deliberations it was very clear that we are not an Advocacy Group nor a Service Club. The use of our funds after the overhead is paid is for programs to enhance a better lifestyle for our seniors.

We opened our doors on January 3rd, 2007 with a full monthly schedule from Mondays to Fridays and 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The Sussex and Area Seniors’ Centre is a non-profit seniors’ organization and is membership driven through a yearly elected Board of Directors.  Any member may put their name forward to be elected to the Board of Directors.  Members who chair activities have a seat and vote on the Board.  Membership fee of $20 is intentionally kept low so anyone can afford to belong.  Operation funds come from annual memberships, Bingo, memorial cards, recycled can donations and any grants offered by the various levels of government for which we apply and are granted.

The Seniors’ Centre was incorporated in 2007 and is a registered charity, therefore; donations are tax deductible.

Our present membership exceeds 300.

Our Logo came from the efforts of  twenty-one Sussex Regional High School Graphic Art Design students devoted to designing our Logo.

Ms Kelly Hill’s design was chosen by our Members at a meeting on April 23rd, 2007.

We appreciate the effort afforded by all the students whose designs were very professionally done.

Congratulations Kelly on your design being selected.
