Activities
Walking:
Members who enjoy walking, use the Centre as a home base and walk
either through town, on the walking trail, or other interesting
areas and in the winter we have access to the arena for indoor
walking. You can walk slowly or fast, alone or with a friend, spouse
or group — whichever is your preference.
Floor Shuffleboard:
We have four Floor Shuffleboards which our members enjoy. Some have
played before and share their talent with those wishing to learn the
game. There is always room on Monday mornings for more players.
Art Classes:
Fred Harrison, art instructor, helps members discover their talent
and enjoy creating paintings on Monday mornings. He holds two
classes, one for beginners and one for the experienced. There is a
$5 surcharge for his time & skill.
Rug Hooking:
Rug Hooking is very popular and with members and they share their
talent and knowledge with those who wish to learn. i.e. How high
should my loop be? Should I hook every hole? What kind of hook
should I get? How do you bind a rug?...etc.
Exercise Classes:
Jeannette Jonah on Wednesday mornings takes the class through
non-strenuous exercises which are geared to Seniors to assist in
keeping you mobile and feeling good. The surcharge is 10 classes for
$35. You need not take them in order, you could miss some and then
continue from there.
Tai Chi:
The graceful movements of people gliding through dance-like poses as
they practice Tai Chi are compelling. These gentle movements improve
stress reduction, flexibility and balance. Jane Achen heads the Tai
Chi Class on Thursday afternoons which many members enjoy. There is
a $5 surcharge for her time & skill.
Educationals on Health and/or Finances:
Speakers on many health topics and/or financial topics which are
informative and of interest. Members are able to ask the speakers
questions or speak with them privately.
Wine & Cheese:
The wine and cheese is a growing favorite with the membership.
Members bring homemade wine and/or a favorite that they purchase.
Members also bring cheese and other finger food and enjoy a time of
sharing and friendships.
Computer Club/Training:
Upon request gatherings are held to discuss computer programs and
computer trouble shooting.
We hold computer training classes from October to May with a $5
surcharge per class —Call the Centre at 433-8480 to get specific
information on what training is being offered at this time. A
two-session course on managing photos on your computer with a
surcharge of $20 for materials is available upon request.
Computer classes are scheduled as demand arises.
INTERNET CAFÉ:
Free access to our computers for members to use at their leisure.
Cards & Other Games:
We have card games everyday, usually they play cribbage daily.
Bridge games are on Thursday. There are chess games, checkers,
backgammon, dominoes, rummoli and scrabble. Any game that members
wish to participate in that we do not have we will get.
AND MORE AT THE CENTRE...
At the Centre every Tuesday at Noon we hold a ‘Soup & Sandwich’ at
$5 per person. Members sign up ahead of time so we can place our
order.
Periodically we hold 50/50 Draws
Also, once a month (on Fridays but Thursdays in the Summer) the
Centre holds a ‘Jam Session’. Musicians and
entertainers get together and members sit back and enjoy. You can
even sing-a-long if you like or get up and dance.
Following the Jam Sessions, we have a ‘Pot Luck’ which
is a big favorite amongst our members. When you try something new,
you can always get the recipe from whomever brought it.
Book Exchange
The Centre also has a Book Corner and you can exchange books for
your pleasure.
From time to time the Centre holds catered dinners
for our members. The charge is usually $20 because they are
specialized dinners and there is a sign-up sheet as numbers are
needed ahead of time.
Visitors are welcome at the Centre. You can have up to four free
visits before choosing to take a membership.
