Improvements at the Centre

Since we opened our doors on January 2007 we have taken out corner washrooms to allow for office and storage.  Installed a door closure over kitchen counter to provide security.  Remodeled a room downstairs as a computer training room:  painting walls, floor, tables, electrical and set up computers and overhead screen.  Installed the donated Computers and screen we received from Aliant Computers for Schools Program.  Built a new Entranceway built with seniors in mind, wheelchair entrance, low gradual steps leading to the downstairs making the second floor more easily accessible for our seniors and space for a future chairlift.  We have just completed a new washroom facility on the first floor.

Due to our experience with vandalism in the past, we have installed security cameras at the Centre in order to curb such happenings.  Also, to assist in keeping our insurance rates and costly repairs stable.

As funds become available we hope to make many more improvements at the Senior Centre. So we can make the Senior Centre all it should be for the seniors in the Sussex and surrounding area.

Grants and Donations

The Centre has been the honoured recipient of grants from the following:

PROVINCIAL:         Wellness, Culture and Sport

                                   Regional Development Corporation

FEDERAL:               New Horizons

MUNICIPAL:           Town of Sussex

                                   Village of Sussex Corner

                                   Hampton Senior Centre

foundations:     Sussex and Area Community Foundation

Since we opened our doors on January 2007 we have received many donated items from individuals and groups, so many it is impossible to acknowledge each and every one.  They greatly assisted in giving us the ability to provide the services we do to our seniors.  We have also received substantial cash donations from Bank of Montreal and Scotia Bank.  We were given a filing cabinet by the Royal Bank.  We express our eternal gratitude for what we have received.

We gladly except donations. If you have something you feel the Senior Centre could use please call the Centre at 433-8480.  Cash donations are tax deductible.
